This Summer at American Yacht Club

This is the fourth year that AYC will host the Captains’ Dinner and Wachovia Cup, an immensely successful event in support of Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center . If you have not seen this state-of-the-art medical facility, chances are you have not needed its services. If you have visited the hospital, then you are probably aware of the miracles that take place at the Children’s Hospital everyday.

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is the only advanced care pediatric center serving the Hudson Valley region and Fairfield County. This family-centered facility, with many distinctive features that offer a total-healing environment, provides seriously ill and injured children much-needed diversion. In fact, from the moment you enter the whimsical environment of Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital you know this place is different. Hopefully, you will never need this facility but it is a blessing to know such expertise is available nearby when needed.

A 6,000-gallon water feature graces the lobby, and an amazing doll collection, sports memorabilia and themed environments that serve as family lounges are located throughout the Children’s Hospital. There is even a room designed by Sparkman & Stephens under the direction of Olin Stephens , and built by Derecktor Shipyards. It is decorated with yacht club burgees from clubs around Long Island Sound and the Hudson River . The entire place is designed to be kid friendly and help take the children’s minds off their illness and onto recovery.

Over the past three years, the events and sponsorships have raised nearly $700,000 for special programs and services at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. This year, we hope to close in on the $1 million mark, creating millions of smiles along the way.
